Rasha Breann Sherrer, a 36-year-old female, was found deceased in a residence in Locust Fork, Alabama, on September 15, 2015. Her death was part of a double homicide; the other victim was identified as 43-year-old Gary 'Sambo' Hazelrig. Both individuals had been fatally shot. Family and friends became concerned after being unable to reach either of them and they were last seen alive on the morning of September 14, 2015.
At the time of her death, Sherrer was a nail technician and a mother to six children. She was remembered as having a big heart, always wanting to ensure everyone had what they needed, and being an advocate for the underprivileged. In her youth, she was an active individual who won a state swimming championship at the age of eight and held the title of Miss Tennessee Valley.
The investigation into the deaths of Sherrer and Hazelrig led to the identification and arrest of three suspects. The killings occurred during a robbery at Hazelrig's home. The perpetrators, Paul Mason Trull, Lane Bosner, and Cody Dooley, drove to the residence in the early morning hours of September 14, 2015, with the intent to steal various items. During the course of the robbery, which included the theft of guns, cell phones, cash, drugs, and a four-wheeler, both Hazelrig and Sherrer were shot and killed.
The legal proceedings that followed brought convictions for all three men involved. Paul Mason Trull was convicted in Blount County Circuit Court in March of 2017 for the felony murders of both victims and received two sentences of 75 years in prison. Lane Bosner was convicted by a jury of capital murder and was sentenced to two terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The third accomplice, Cody Dooley, entered into a plea agreement, pleading guilty to two counts of intentional murder. In exchange for his testimony against both Trull and Bosner, he was sentenced to two concurrent 50-year prison terms.
