Anyone else puzzled by the dropped charges against Mariela? I mean, the confession seemed pretty detailed, right? Using a toaster as a weapon just sounds so unusual. Yet, forensics must not have been strong enough to convict. I wonder what the “unspecified DNA evidence” was. Could it be linked to the vehicle somehow or something else at the scene? What’s strange is that they hadn’t found anything conclusive to seal the case despite Mariela’s claims. I can’t imagine how stressful it must be for Karl’s family not to have closure. Found it interesting that he owned two taverns - seems like there might've been quite a lot of drama going on behind the scenes in his life. Anyone here from the Houston area remember when this all happened?

Does anyone else find it odd that the Oasis Tavern in Liberty, Texas, has never been discussed much in this case? We know that Karl Terry Karbowski owned it in addition to the River Bend Tavern. Could there be clues related to his disappearance linked to the Oasis? Maybe some of the patrons or employees from there might have seen or heard something relevant around the time Karl went missing. It seems like a potential piece of the puzzle that hasn't been fully explored. Anyone local to the Liberty area or any other threads where this has been talked about before? Would love to know if there's more to this angle.
