I was thinking a lot about the societal issues that tragedies like Jalen Johnson’s bring to light. It’s incredibly difficult to understand how cases of gun violence continue to rip families apart. Reading about Jalen’s story, I can't help but feel for his mother, Tamika, and how profoundly her life has been changed. Her plea against gun violence is a stark reminder of the power we hold as a community to push for change. The outpouring of love shown through the candlelight vigil really speaks to how much Jalen was cherished by those around him. It seems like the kind of loss that shakes a neighborhood to its core. Remembering him with 182 candles on Gun Memorial is such a beautiful tribute and shows the lasting impact he had on so many. For those in Opelika and beyond, how do you feel we can best honor Jalen's memory and support his loved ones during such a painful time? Let’s keep the conversation going on how we can all work together to stop these senseless acts of violence.

I can't stop thinking about how promising Jalen's future looked. Knowing he was planning to get his driver’s license and move in with his girlfriend just makes this tragedy all the more painful. He had his whole life ahead of him, and it's gut-wrenching to think those dreams were cut short. Naudica's words paint a picture of someone who was cherished and who cherished the people around him. I can’t imagine what his family is going through right now, especially with all those plans left unfulfilled. I hope everyone in the community continues to support them and each other—this senseless violence has to end. Any little memory or story about Jalen that family and friends can hold onto must be so precious right now. Wishing strength and love to all who knew him.
