It’s truly unsettling to think about the circumstances surrounding Gerald Westry’s tragic death. Something that really stands out to me is the fact that there was no robbery involved. It makes the crime even more perplexing and chilling since the usual motive of robbery is absent. Westry’s life was taken in such a senseless manner, especially when he was someone who brought light and laughter into the lives of those who knew him. I can’t imagine what his family and friends are going through right now. Also, the angle concerning Ashton Garner’s mental health issues needs thorough investigation. Mental health is so crucial and can’t be overlooked, but it also doesn’t excuse violent actions. I hope there are steps being taken to ensure justice not only preserves Westry's memory but also takes into account any relevant mental health considerations with a careful eye. What a devastating loss for the Mobile community.
