Sergio Allen Brown Jr., 20, of Bowie, Maryland, was riding with two others along Southern Avenue SE just after 1 a.m. on September 10, 2008, when someone opened fire on the vehicle in the 4600 block at the District–Prince George’s County border. Shot multiple times, he was found unconscious and taken to a hospital in Maryland, where he died later that day. His death was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch, which issued a public appeal and offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Family obituaries say funeral services were held at Holy Family Church in Mitchellville with burial at a local cemetery, and friends recalled him from school and the neighborhood. The case remains an open homicide with no publicly announced arrest; anyone with information is asked to contact police.
