Has anyone else looked into the weather conditions on the day of the Taki-Tooo incident? I've been reading up on the circumstances surrounding the capsize, and it's startling to me that despite a storm-swell warning and small craft advisory, the boat still went out. I’m not from the area, but I know the Tillamook Bay bar is infamously treacherous. Were these risks just downplayed back then, or did people feel pressure to proceed despite such conditions? It just seems like a lot of people put themselves in incredible danger that day. It’s hard to grasp how such a decision was made, especially when lives were at stake. Thoughts?
I can't stop thinking about the role that weather conditions played in the Taki-Tooo tragedy. It just baffles me that despite the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's storm-swell warning, the boat set out anyway. I mean, 10- to 15-foot swells should have been a clear sign to stay anchored. I'm curious about local protocols concerning small craft advisories — are they usually adhered to by charter operators in the area? It seems like more stringent measures could potentially prevent future events like this. For those who are local, have safety practices changed on these charter trips since the incident?
