A midday shooting in Northwest Washington left two cousins dead and several others wounded. James Johnson, 53, and his cousin Rashad Johnson, 43, were fatally shot on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, in the unit block of O Street NW at about 12:48 p.m. At least two suspects reportedly got out of a black SUV and opened fire on a group, striking five men in total; three other adult males survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The perpetrators fled in a black 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. Investigators characterize the attack as targeted and say it appears to have set off a retaliatory shooting hours later a few blocks away on Quincy Place NE, where three more men were hurt; arrests were made in that subsequent incident. The Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Branch is handling the case and a reward of up to $50,000 has been offered for information leading to arrests and convictions in the double homicide.
Did anyone in the neighborhood see the black Hyundai Santa Fe or the suspects that afternoon?
