On the evening of December 18, 2010, at about 6:30 p.m., police in Washington, D.C. responded to the 3600 block of 12th Street NE and found 46-year-old Rajeshkumar Patel with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital but died of his injuries; the case was ruled a homicide.

The Metropolitan Police Department investigated and later offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. In May 2012 the department released a video showing two male suspects believed to be connected to Patel’s death and renewed its public appeal for tips, including anonymous text messages. To date there has been no public announcement of any arrests and the investigation remains open.
