I can't stop thinking about the student who witnessed the shooting at Stillman College. I can't even imagine the trauma and fear they must have experienced. Being at the wrong place at the wrong time can change a life forever. I hope this person is receiving the support and counseling they need after such a traumatic event. It’s commendable that the college is prioritizing mental health support for students, but it also makes me think about longer-term impacts these events leave on individuals and communities. How long does it take to feel safe again on campus, or even in general? Davanta Anderson lost his life in such a tragic way, and my heart goes out to his family and friends. This senseless violence affects so many people beyond just the immediate tragedy. We may not always hear about the witnesses in these cases, but they need healing, too.
