In the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, September 7, 2013, gunfire sounded on the 2900 block of 2nd Street SE in Washington, D.C. Officers arriving at about 3:46 a.m. found a man unconscious from gunshot wounds. He was identified as 30-year-old Kenneth Guytrell Sweet, a Northeast D.C. resident, and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation, canvassed the neighborhood and appealed for witnesses, but the case produced no public information about suspects or a motive and eventually went cold. The investigation is still listed as an open unsolved homicide, leaving Sweet’s family and the community without answers.
If anyone remembers seeing or hearing anything on that block shortly before or after 3:46 a.m. on September 7, 2013, please come forward with information.
