I just came across the tragic news about Dijon Alexander McQueen, and my heart truly goes out to his family and friends. I can't shake the thought of how a young life was ended in such a senseless manner. I grew up not far from Midfield, and it's unsettling how gun violence seems to be becoming more frequent in areas we used to feel safe in. What's been particularly troubling is that we haven't heard much about the person taken into custody. It's frustrating not knowing if they knew Dijon or if this was a complete random act. I can only imagine the uncertainty and pain his loved ones must be feeling right now. Given how many lives have been struck by similar tragedies lately, it feels like there's an urgent need to foster real change in Birmingham and the surrounding communities. We all need to come together to figure out solutions that might stop another family from having to endure a loss like this. Keeping Dijon and his loved ones in my thoughts and hoping they find some form of peace in the days ahead.
