I came across this case recently, and it has really stuck with me. It's so tragic to hear about the confrontation at Town Square Village Apartments that led to Deandre's death. My heart goes out to his family and friends during what must be an unimaginably difficult time. What really struck me is the fact that Zaki stayed onsite and called 911. It makes me wonder about his state of mind following the incident and if he realized the gravity of what had just occurred. It leads to so many questions about the events leading up to the shooting and whether there were any opportunities to defuse the situation before it turned violent. I keep thinking about how essential conflict resolution skills are in moments like these. It’s a stark reminder of how an argument can spiral out of control with deadly consequences. We really need to ask ourselves as a community what we can do to prevent such tragic outcomes in the future.
