Has anyone else been puzzled by the distance between where Hugh's truck was found and his home in Morro Bay? It's strange that he'd break down only about 10 miles from home and then just vanish. Given he was a survivalist, as mentioned, it seems odd that Hugh wouldn't be prepared with some kind of backup for a vehicle issue, especially on a trip he's probably done a thousand times. Could it be that something else happened on that highway? Maybe someone he knew or even didn't know came along at the wrong time? There’s speculation about who might have had a motive because of the unsolved case of his wife Dian. If we're talking about potential foul play tied to her murder, I wonder if someone was trailing him, waiting for the perfect moment to settle a score. The location might've just been coincidental or perhaps chosen for its seclusion. Either way, I'd love to hear more thoughts on why he'd risk leaving his truck locked up and walking that stretch of Highway 1. Seems like only someone who wasn’t planning on returning would leave essentials like a sleeping bag or backpack behind, no?

Hey everyone! I was just reading about Hugh Frederick Harlin's disappearance, and something that really piqued my interest was the condition in which his truck was found. The fact that the fuel line was removed and his keys were in the grass nearby is such a peculiar detail. It sounds to me like he might have been trying to fix something on the spot or maybe even sabotage his own vehicle if we consider the "new life" theory. For those who know more about cars than I do, is removing the fuel line a common fix for anything, or does it indicate something else? It just feels odd that his truck was left locked up with his belongings inside but the hood up as if he was in the middle of working on it. Would love to hear your thoughts!
