On November 1, 1986, 51-year-old Hugh Frederick Harlin disappeared after completing a two-day construction job in San Simeon, California. He was last seen at approximately 1:30 p.m. leaving the job site to return to his home in Morro Bay, a 27-mile drive. The following day, a friend who had lent Harlin tools for the job discovered his blue 1967 Chevrolet utility bed pickup truck abandoned on the side of Highway 1 near Cambria.
