On the evening of April 18, 2009, in the 1400 block of 8th Street NW in Northwest Washington, D.C., 39-year-old Jose Lopez was brutally assaulted and suffered multiple stab wounds. He survived the initial attack but spent the next six years living with serious complications from those injuries.

Jose Lopez died on June 14, 2015. After an autopsy, the medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, finding it was the direct result of complications from the 2009 stab wounds. Police opened a homicide investigation to identify whoever attacked him back in 2009; that investigation was ongoing as of the announcement of the ruling.

If anyone remembers the April 18, 2009 assault or has information that could help identify the person or persons responsible, please come forward.
