I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact this tragic event must have had on the tight-knit community of Manley Hot Springs. With only about 70 residents, I can't imagine how deeply the loss of those villagers was felt. It’s so unsettling to think that someone like Silka could arrive and bring such horror to what must have been a peaceful place. I really feel for those families who lost loved ones, having to reckon with the sudden disappearance and then the grim discovery that followed. It’s also hard not to think about how the troopers would have been affected by losing one of their own in such a violent way. From what little I know about Trooper Duncan, he seemed like the kind of person who took his duty to protect the community very seriously. I hope the memorial held for him and the victims brought some sense of communal strength and solidarity in a time of such confusion and pain. This case just makes me hope that those families and the Manley Hot Springs community have found some healing over the years.
