Hi everyone, I’m really disturbed by the news of Perez Demarco Moreland's tragic passing. It’s beyond comprehension how someone can be taken from their loved ones so senselessly. I've been reading up on the incident, and what really caught my attention was Mayor Woodfin’s statement urging the community to find ways to de-escalate conflicts without guns. It's clear emotions are running high in Birmingham, especially with numbers like 141 homicides already this year. I just keep thinking — what can be done at a community level to truly address and reduce this violence? Surely, initiatives or outreach programs aimed at conflict resolution and mediation can make a difference? Has anyone heard of successful strategies from other cities that could be applied here? My heart goes out to Perez’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. I hope they find some peace and that the community can come together to prevent further tragedies.
