Has anyone else been following the case of Phillip Emmanuel Bailey? My thoughts have been with his family and friends ever since I heard the news. I was just thinking about the neighborhood where it happened. The 1900 block of 13th Way Southwest isn't somewhere unfamiliar to me since I've visited friends nearby. It's unsettling to think this happened so close to home for some of us. It's been said many times that this case reflects a greater problem in Birmingham right now. We're already at 87 homicides this year, and what concerns me is the potential for more senseless violence if we don't find ways to intervene. I really hope someone steps forward with information that could lead to a breakthrough. It's imperative for the community to come together and help prevent such tragedies. If anyone has any thoughts on how we as a community can support those efforts, I'd love to hear them.
