I can't even begin to imagine the pain Michaya's family is going through right now. Just thinking about the fact that she was only 21 and had so much ahead of her, it's truly devastating. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved her. I’ve been following the discussions about the police pursuit policies, and I think it’s really important that Parker's family is pushing for some clarity. We all need to know that these procedures are in place to keep us safe. The fact that the officer chose to end the chase when it became too dangerous shows there was at least some awareness, but maybe there’s more that could be done to prevent these situations altogether. It's a conversation we definitely need to be having, and I hope it leads to changes that will help protect others. The knowledge that her friends and family organized a vigil and balloon release is a testament to how much she was loved and how deeply she impacted those around her. I didn’t know Michaya, but seeing a community come together to honor her life is truly moving. If any good can come out of this, it’s that her story might inspire change and prevent another family from experiencing this kind of loss.
