I've been following the tragedy in Riverside and something that's been weighing heavily on my mind is how the community must be processing this. From what I've read, the Vance family seemed like a typical, quiet family who kept to themselves, making this event all the more shocking. I can't imagine the pain and confusion the neighbors and friends must be feeling right now—trying to grasp how someone they knew in passing could be involved in something like this. The memorial service at Eden Westside Baptist Church must have been incredibly emotional. It's heartening to see that the community came together to support the grieving loved ones and honor the lives of Florence and her daughters. It breaks my heart thinking about the teacher who may have taught the girls or the neighbors who waved to Florence as she passed by. They need each other right now more than ever. It's essential to keep reaching out to one another and to not let this tragedy fade without learning from it. It's hard to understand such actions and even harder to talk about them with our children, but it's crucial that we do. Let's keep this family in our thoughts and remember to offer a shoulder to lean on to those directly impacted.
