I've been following the case of Scott Von Lanken's murder, and I can't stop thinking about the impact this has had on his community and the people he helped every day. It's deeply unsettling to know that such a selfless individual, who dedicated his life to serving others both in his security work and his ministry, was taken in such a senseless act of violence. I've read accounts of how Scott was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, and it just makes his loss feel even more profound. I keep going back to how Cummings mistook Scott's uniform and acted out of such misguided beliefs. It feels important to acknowledge the need for understanding and addressing the root causes of such extremism to hopefully prevent future tragedies. My thoughts are with Scott’s family, friends, and everyone who knew him. It must be incredibly difficult to process such a loss, and I hope they find some comfort in knowing that Scott's positive impact continues to be remembered and cherished by many.
