I’ve been following the case of Noe Mendez for a while now, and it really struck me how multi-layered these investigations can get. It's deeply unsettling to think about the environment that allowed Omar Torres to orchestrate another crime even while locked up. The fact that the teenage witness was so ruthlessly targeted is alarming and a bleak reminder of the reach these gangs have, even from within prison walls. My heart goes out to Mendez’s family and especially to the young witness’s loved ones — they were trying to do the right thing and faced unimaginable consequences. It makes me wonder about the safety measures (or lack thereof) for witnesses in cases like these. Does anyone know if changes were made to protect witnesses more effectively after this case? It seems crucial given the violent lengths these gangs go to preserve their control.
