Does anyone remember the time when the police refused to open a case for two whole years after Lisa Michelle Hatchell went missing? It's unfathomable to me--and terrifying--that someone can just vanish, and yet, it's not taken seriously by those who are supposed to protect us. There are just so many layers to this case that make the whole situation a nightmare for her family. Given her history, maybe there was a tendency to think she left on her own accord, but setting aside that possibility for two long years? That's a huge gap where critical leads or evidence could have been lost forever. It’s chilling to think how perceptions really can shape a case's trajectory—or lack thereof. Anyone have insights or thoughts on how we can encourage more immediate responses in missing person cases like Lisa’s?
