I was looking over some old cases and John's disappearance caught my eye, especially with the details surrounding his missing hip. I remember reading that congenital defects like his can sometimes affect the way someone walks, making them more noticeable if someone was watching him that night. Could this have put him at risk if someone took advantage of that fact? It's also haunting that his description matched those remains found in '78 - I can't imagine the rollercoaster of emotions for his family waiting on those DNA results. It breaks my heart that after all these years we’re still in the dark about what happened to him. Thoughts on the two missing boys? Do you think there's something there that investigators might have missed? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
Hey everyone, I’ve been following John Jay Ashley Jr.’s case for a while and something's been bugging me about the clothing he was last seen wearing. It sounds so specific—especially the brown wool hat. Does anyone know if it was particularly unusual for teens at the time to wear combat boots and a black leather jacket, or were these common? I’m wondering if his attire might suggest where he was headed or if there's someone out there who might remember seeing him dressed like that and just doesn’t realize it. Also, the other boy who went missing that night—does anyone else think it’s weird there was no confirmed connection despite all the speculation? Just trying to piece this puzzle together. What do you all think?
Does anyone else find it odd that there seems to be little focus on Jay's hip defect and its potential impact on his disappearance? That congenital hip issue wasn't just a minor detail—it might have affected his walking or how quickly he could move. Could this have made him more vulnerable to potential dangers in the area? Also, the fact that other remains were found and initially thought to be him makes me wonder about how thorough the searches were back then. Anyone from Wilmington remember if this was ever discussed locally when it first happened? It seems like something that might have been overlooked.
