Hi everyone,
I’ve been thinking lately about the surrounding circumstances of Juan Lopez Ramirez's tragic case. Given the location where his body was discovered under the Broadway Bridge onramp, it makes me wonder about the level of foot traffic in that area back in 1988. It's a spot reportedly known to be frequented by transients and others struggling with addiction, but has anyone looked into just how many people might have had access to that area around the time of Juan’s murder?
Also, what baffles me is how no one noticed the rolled-up carpet sooner, especially if it was emitting an odor weeks prior to its discovery. This case must be so devastating for his family and friends, and it’s frustrating to think there might still be witnesses or people with knowledge of what happened who haven’t come forward after all these years.
If anyone here has insights into that area of Portland from the late '80s or thoughts on how that environment might have played a role in hindering the investigation, I’d love to hear your perspectives. The more angles we consider, the better chance we might have in helping bring some justice for Juan and closure for those who cared about him.
Thanks for reading and contemplating this with me.

I've been reading up on the tragic case of Juan Lopez Ramirez, and it's really stuck with me how vulnerable his situation was. Finding oneself living on the streets is unimaginably tough, and Ramirez's struggles with addiction only added to the complexity of his life. I can't help but wonder about the community of people in the area under the Broadway Bridge at the time. It's likely that some knew him, even in passing, and might have seen or heard something related to his disappearance or the days leading up to it. It's a stark reminder of how important it is to look out for each other, especially in marginalized communities, where individuals can often go unnoticed. If anyone was familiar with that area or might recall something from back then, even the smallest detail could help bring justice to Juan's memory and give his family some peace. Let's hope that the cold case unit can someday connect the missing pieces.
