I was going through some old notes on this case and something that always struck me as odd was the presence of that unidentified man with John and Shelly at the bank. Has anyone done a deep dive on bank security footage or records to try and ID this person? It seems odd that with all the resources thrown into solving this mystery, he'd just vanish into thin air. Were there any eyewitnesses who could provide more detail about him or mention any distinguishing features? I can’t help but wonder if his appearance at the bank might have been the key to piecing together the events leading to their disappearance. Hope someone has some fresh insights or theories about this angle.
Does anyone else find the timing of that bank transaction super suspicious? I mean, a $1,000 check cashed right before they vanished, and with another guy in the truck? I can't help but think this other individual has to hold some key piece to the puzzle. Plus, why on earth would they leave their cell phone in the truck if they planned to leave or were taken against their will? It's almost like they were planning to come back to it, or maybe they didn't have a chance. The fact that these small details never led to any solid answers just makes this case all the more perplexing. Anyone here with theories on who that unknown man could be or what his role might be in all of this?
I've been following the Markley case for a while, and something that's always bugged me is the abandoned truck. So the truck is found locked in a parking lot, right, but why would their cell phone be inside if they left willingly or with someone they knew? It feels really suspicious to me. I understand tech wasn't what it is today, but even in '95, a cell phone was valuable. It's like everything was left behind intentionally to throw people off, but if they were leaving on their own, why not take the phone? And if it was foul play, why leave the phone? It seems like a crucial piece of evidence left out in the open, but still, nobody has a clue. Could they have been forced out of the car by someone they trusted? It's a curious detail.
