I’ve been following the disappearance of Darren Christopher Smith and something about his case has always bugged me. While most focus is on the search area, has anyone else given thought to his boat being found in perfect sailing condition? As someone who knows a bit about sailing myself, it's odd that a boat would turn up adrift yet still fully rigged. If there were strong winds or rough waters, you’d expect some sail damage, or at least the sails to be taken down. Could this suggest that whatever happened to Darren didn’t involve a struggle on the boat? Or perhaps he left it willingly, planning to return shortly? I’m curious if anyone has ever seen actual photos of the boat to gather more insight from its condition. For a seasoned sailor at home on the water, leaving it all shipshape just seems off.
Hey everyone,
I've been digging into Darren Christopher Smith's disappearance, and something that's been bugging me is the condition of his sloop when it was found. It was still fully rigged for sailing, which seems odd to me. If something had gone wrong, wouldn't there be signs of distress or an attempt to alter course? I'm no sailing expert, but would it be common for an experienced sailor like Darren to just leave everything as is?
It's strange that with such an experienced sailor, there's no evidence of what went awry. Could it have been a medical emergency that left him unable to react, or perhaps something more sinister at play that left him unable to adjust the sails? Just trying to piece together any possible scenario here. Any thoughts from those more familiar with sailing?
I've been following Darren Christopher Smith's case since it first happened in 2003, and something that's always puzzled me is how his boat was found. The fact that it was fully rigged for sailing makes me wonder if he was planning to return to shore soon. Does anyone else find it odd that there were no signs of distress on the boat, like none of his personal belongings were missing or scattered? It almost seems like he might have stepped off voluntarily, but that doesn't make sense given he was an experienced sailor who stuck close to shore. Has anyone heard of similar cases where the person just vanished without a trace? It just boggles my mind how everything seemed perfectly normal, yet he disappeared without leaving any hints behind.
