Has anyone else delved into the rumors about Lewis Welch's connections with other Beat Generation figures beyond just Kerouac and Snyder? I recently came across some old interviews that suggested he might have had some lesser-known relationships with other poets and artists of the era. It got me wondering if any of those connections could provide more insight into his mental state before his disappearance. Given how tight-knit and influential that circle was in the 60s, I can't help but think there might be untapped stories or perspectives that could shed light on what he was going through. Has anyone else heard or read anything interesting in that vein?
I recently came across the case of Lewis Barrett Welch Jr., and something that's been on my mind is the timing of his disappearance. It's just so peculiar that he went missing during the early '70s—a time when many members of the Beat Generation were facing their own personal upheavals. It seems like a pattern of turmoil was rippling through that community. I wonder how much the cultural shifts of that era might have affected him personally and if anyone from his circle noticed any signs before he left Gary Snyder's home. Even though we know he struggled with depression, I'm curious if external factors played a bigger role in his decision to vanish. Would love to hear any thoughts or insights from folks who are more familiar with the Beat scene during that time period!
