Has anyone here investigated the theory that Matthew might have traveled to the West Coast? I came across a couple of clippings about hitchhikers matching his description around that time, claiming to be looking for spiritual retreats. Knowing his fascination for Native American folklore, it makes me wonder if he could have been drawn to places like Sedona or other areas in California known for their spiritual communities. Has anyone dug deeper into this angle, or perhaps has access to local news archives that might provide more clues? There’s so little information on this path. If his behavior a year prior was anything to go by, he might have sought a place offering some kind of closure or peace. Would love to know if anyone has come across anything that ties this theory together.
Has anyone found it strange that Matthew's Pontiac was never located? I mean, I've read a lot about cases where a missing person’s vehicle eventually turns up and provides some new leads, but in Matthew’s case, it seems like the car vanished into thin air too. If he was heading towards Custer State Park, you'd think there might have been some sighting of the car along the way, right? Has anyone heard about any searches conducted along that route or in areas where the car might have been spotted? It just seems odd that there's been no trace of it all these years. Maybe focusing on finding the car could open up new directions in this cold case. Thoughts?
