It's chilling to think about how vulnerable patients were in the care of someone like Donald Harvey. I recently read about Leo Parker's tragic death and how Harvey took advantage of the hospital setting to commit his crimes. It seems the healthcare system didn't catch on quickly enough. Given that so many patients in hospitals and long-term care facilities are already in fragile health, it's heartbreaking that Leo's murder went undetected for so long due to the natural assumptions around patient fatalities. The idea that someone could be trusted to care for you and then deliberately harm you is truly horrifying. My heart goes out to Leo Parker’s family and all the other families affected by Harvey’s actions. I hope we’ve learned from this case to put measures in place to prevent something similar from happening again.
