It’s deeply unsettling to think of the unimaginable betrayal Claborn Kendrick and his family faced at the hands of someone who was supposed to care for him. The chilling aspect that sticks with me is how Harvey had the audacity to justify his horrific actions by claiming he "helped" Kendrick’s wife by letting her enjoy a vacation before taking Kendrick’s life. It's gut-wrenching to know that Harvey felt entitled to make life-and-death decisions for others, based on his own self-serving logic. As a community, how do we reckon with the knowledge that such manipulation occurred undetected for so long? Kendrick’s story haunts me, knowing that for months his family lived with an apparently natural tragedy, only to later discover this cruel truth. I can't begin to fathom what must have gone through their minds learning about the meticulous planning behind his murder. My heart goes out to Kathy Young and the rest of Kendrick’s family for their strength in facing the painful reality of this betrayal.
