Hi everyone,
I've been thinking about the role of hospital protocols during the time of Edward Schreibeis's death in 1986, a victim of Donald Harvey. With Harvey working as an orderly and having such easy access to patients, it makes me wonder: Were the safety measures and protocols for handling medications and patient care lacking back then? I know times have changed, but it's chilling to think how someone could manipulate such vulnerable systems without initially raising alarm.
How did no one notice the pattern or question the frequent use of certain substances like cyanide among these vulnerable patients? It's terrifying to think that such oversight in a place meant for healing allowed these horrors to unfold. I feel deeply for Edward Schreibeis’s family and others affected; trusting a care facility and its staff should never lead to such devastating outcomes. ?
Curious to hear your thoughts on how hospital safety has evolved since then and what more could be done to prevent future tragedies.
Stay safe, everyone.
