I continue to be haunted by the bravery of Savannah Rubio. To think that she acted on pure instinct to protect the children is a testament to her character. A mother through and through, she didn't hesitate to step in, putting the safety of others above her own. The loss to her family and community is immeasurable. It's unfathomable how a disagreement over a soccer game ended in this tragedy. I've been thinking about the devastating impact on the children who witnessed everything. How do they process such a traumatic event, especially so close to home and in what should have been a safe space for them? I really hope there are counseling and support resources available for them, as well as for others in the community who are affected. The swift arrest of Martinez-Lopez is a relief, but I can only imagine the complex emotions for everyone involved as this proceeds to trial. No matter the outcome, nothing will bring back the lives lost or ease the pain of those who loved them. Let's all keep these families in our thoughts and hope that justice is served.
