Does anyone else here feel an eerie sense of disconnect between the ages of everyone involved in this tragedy? Alexis was only 15, just starting to navigate the complexities of teenage life, and already she's been taken from us. It’s a reminder of just how vulnerable our youth are in the face of rising violence. The fact that children, basically, are the suspects in such a serious crime adds another layer of confusion and sadness to this situation. When youth are both victims and perpetrators, it really shakes your faith in the environments they’re growing up in. It's tough to picture what Alexis’ family must be going through. I can’t imagine the pain of having to bury a child. And while everyone's focused on the ongoing investigation, their focus is, understandably, on the life that’s been lost. Hopefully, the Peace Walk and Prayer organized by Mayor Aldridge can bring the community together and help prevent future violence. We need to foster a safe space for our children where they learn that disputes don’t have to end in violence. Keeping Alexis and all affected in my thoughts.
