Does anyone have any insight into conditions in the Sea of Cortez around early January? I'm curious about currents and visibility during that time of year, especially in the Punta Prieta area. I’ve read some accounts mentioning strong undertows, but I'm not sure how reliable that info is. I'm just trying to wrap my head around the possibility that Steve Seo’s disappearance was solely due to natural factors. Also, has anyone come across similar cases where divers have gone missing under such circumstances? Really hoping that more details could emerge to shed light on what happened that day.
Has anyone looked into ocean currents in the area during the time Steve Seo went missing? I've read that the Sea of Cortez can have some really strong currents, especially in winter. If he had an unexpected encounter with a powerful current, it's possible it could've pulled him away from the original dive site before his companions noticed anything was wrong. This might explain why they only found the speargun and not much else. I wonder if authorities considered this and if it changed the search efforts or focus initially? Would love to hear from anyone familiar with diving conditions there!
I've been reading up on Steve Seo's case, and something that piques my curiosity is the condition of the water that day. Considering the currents in the Sea of Cortez, does anyone know if there were any reports of stronger-than-usual currents or odd weather patterns on January 1, 2004? I've heard that sudden shifts can catch even seasoned divers off guard. Maybe it's a stretch, but it might explain why his speargun was found fired. Could he have been caught by surprise and fired at something in a moment of panic? It seems strange for an experienced diver to lose track or misjudge the conditions unless something unexpected occurred. Any thoughts?
