Shinho "Steve" Seo, a 34-year-old man, was last seen on January 1, 2004, while scuba diving off the coast of Punta Prieta, Mexico, in the Sea of Cortez. At the time, Seo, a spear fisherman, was diving around 60 feet beneath the surface. After he failed to resurface, his diving companions found his speargun floating nearby. The spear had been fired, and the cord led to a coral cave, but there was no trace of Seo.
Seo, who was employed as a mortgage banker in Norwalk, California, and originally from South Korea, is presumed to have drowned during the dive. He was wearing a black neoprene wetsuit, a mask, and a snorkel at the time of his disappearance. Despite the investigation, no further clues about his whereabouts have surfaced. His case remains classified as a "lost/injured missing" incident.
Los Angeles County authorities continue to investigate, though Seo's disappearance is believed to be accidental.
