A tranquil suburban morning in Lakewood, California, was shattered by violence on January 15, 2026, culminating in the tragic death of 48-year-old Hispanic female, Roxana Elizabeth Rodriguez. What unfolded inside their home on Lorelei Avenue was a horrific domestic incident that would leave a family torn apart.
The events began to unfold around 8 a.m. when deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon. The call was made by the couple's 19-year-old daughter, who reported that her father had shot at her and was now unconscious. When authorities arrived, the distraught young woman ran out of the house and was immediately detained for questioning.
Inside the residence, a grim scene awaited the deputies. They discovered the body of Hector Lionel Alfaro, 52, in the den with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his upper torso. In separate bedrooms, they found the bodies of Roxana Rodriguez and their 17-year-old daughter, both of whom had also been shot in the upper torso. All three were pronounced dead at the scene in what investigators have determined to be a murder-suicide.
The sole survivor of the rampage, the 19-year-old daughter, told investigators that she was awakened by the sound of gunshots. Her father, Hector Alfaro, then appeared and fired multiple shots at her, but she was not physically harmed. He then turned the gun on himself. Two firearms were recovered from the home. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the devastating actions of Hector Alfaro. The surviving daughter remembered her mother as a "devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend" and her younger sister as having "the sweetest, kindest and most nurturing soul."
