I’ve been following the Trenton shooting closely and can’t stop thinking about the impact this tragedy has had on Wilber Quib-Cuc’s family and friends. I can’t imagine the pain that his loved ones are going through right now. One thought that I keep returning to is the effectiveness of ShotSpotter technology. While it’s relieving to know that police were alerted so quickly, I wonder if this could lead to broader preventive measures in reducing gun violence. As sad as it is, I’m grateful this tool may help bring some justice to Wilber’s family. At the same time, it raises a larger question for me about community safety and what more can be done to prevent such devastating events in the future. Seeing how Darnell Housley was picked up shortly after the ShotSpotter alert, there’s potential for technology to play a bigger role in solving crimes—or even better, preventing them. My thoughts remain with Wilber’s family. I hope they’re able to find some comfort and peace amidst all this pain.
