I've been thinking about the role firearms play in domestic situations. It’s deeply troubling to me that a sawed-off shotgun was present in Arrianna’s home, especially given Franklin's history. Even though he's prohibited from having a firearm due to his prior conviction, it seems like that law didn't do anything to prevent tragedy here. I wonder how many lives could potentially be saved if there were better enforcement of these restrictions. My heart goes out to Arrianna’s family and her little one, who now has to grow up without their mother. How do we even begin to address these gaps in the system to make sure this doesn't happen to another family?

Has anyone else taken a closer look at the history of the charges against Franklin? His robbery conviction in Cook County really makes me question why he had access to a firearm in the first place. It's just so infuriating to think that despite his prior conviction, there wasn't enough done to prevent another weapon from entering his life. I'm no legal expert, but it seems like there should be more stringent checks in place, especially for individuals with violent pasts. My heart goes out to Arrianna Miles's family, especially to her child who now faces life without her. I just hope that justice is served, and lessons are learned from this tragedy so that it doesn’t happen to another family.
