I’ve been following the tragic case of Dominic Devon Halton, and I can’t stop thinking about how profoundly this impacts his loved ones. I didn’t know him personally, but every time I read about another loss to violence, it feels so senseless. The fact that they’ve already charged someone—Rolando Garza—brings some hope for justice, but it won't bring Dominic back. It's also hard to ignore the pattern of violence that's becoming all too common in areas like Oak Cliff. The community must be feeling this deeply. Having grown up in a similar neighborhood, I remember attending vigils where it was more about supporting each other and trying to make sense of things than anything else. For those who knew Dominic, I hope they find some comfort in the support flowing in from the community. It’s clear he was loved, and I’m keeping his family and friends in my thoughts as they navigate through this unimaginable time.
