Just read the latest on the Deep Ellum tragedy, and I can't stop thinking about the unlucky bystanders who got caught up in the chaos. Not only did Caylen Fritz lose his life, but several other innocent people had their nights turned upside down due to some senseless violent feud. I can't even begin to imagine being out for a holiday weekend and experiencing such a nightmare. My heart goes out to all the families affected, though the Fritz family is undoubtedly bearing the heaviest burden. It's easy to forget those who were injured or traumatized by being in the wrong place at the wrong time—it's not just about the victims we read headlines about. The memories of that night will stick with them for life, and their pain and fear deserve acknowledgment and support. I really hope they find strength and healing too, amid all this tragedy. Let's not neglect the need for stronger community support systems to help folks affected by such random acts of violence.
