Does anyone else feel like cases like these just underscore the need for deeper community connection and support? I'm thinking about Julio Chavez-Valdez and how his tragic death was part of this awful crime wave in Albuquerque back in 2017. It's unsettling to think about how many lives were impacted during that time and the void left behind for families like Julio's.
I always wonder if the decrease in community resources and social support plays a role in these tragic events. When neighborhoods don’t feel safe and people feel isolated, it just breeds more fear and desperation. I hope that in the aftermath of resolving cases like these, we can push for more programs and community outreach to help prevent future tragedies. Julio's family, and those of the other victims, deserved so much better.
If anyone knows if there have been any positive changes in Albuquerque since then, I'd love to hear about it. It seems vital we hold onto hope and work towards better prevention to honor those we've lost.
