Hey everyone, I stumbled upon Nelson Gibbs' case again while researching unsolved mysteries, and I can't stop thinking about something. I know the assumptions are that he was swept away by floodwaters, but has anyone ever looked into any possible sightings after the flood subsided? I mean, given the chaos during Hurricane Irene, it's not impossible he could have ended up in a different town somehow. Maybe he was disoriented and lost track of time or location. Could something like this have fallen through the cracks amidst all the other emergencies at the time? Just thinking out loud here, but maybe reaching out to folks in nearby areas to Flintbrook and beyond might jog someone's memory of seeing an elderly man who looked out of place back then. Sometimes cases need that fresh set of eyes or ears. Thoughts?

I was just reading about Nelson Gibbs, and it's really puzzling how someone can just vanish like that. I mean, given that he was last seen near Woodlawn Cemetery and with all the chaos of Hurricane Irene, it's clear that the conditions were extremely hazardous. But what's intriguing is how, even after extensive search efforts, not a single trace has turned up. It's like nature swallowed him whole. You'd think with all the advances in technology over the years, something would have surfaced by now. Does anyone else wonder if the terrain changes caused by the flood made the search areas almost impossible to navigate or is there another reason? I'm curious if local residents have shared anything over the years that didn’t make it into official reports.

Just stumbled across the case of Nelson Gibbs while researching other unsolved disappearances during natural disasters, and I can't stop thinking about how fragile our safety can be against nature's unpredictability. I was really struck by the location of his last sighting. Woodlawn Cemetery, of all places. It's almost poetic, in a haunting sort of way, that a place meant for peace became the last known spot in his life. Does anyone know if his family or the local community holds any memorials or events in his honor to raise awareness about better safety measures during floods? It's just so concerning that even now, more than a decade later, there's nothing solid about what happened to him or the others who disappeared in the same tragedy. Would love to hear if anyone's done any volunteer work in Rochester post-Irene or if Gibbs' case inspired any local initiatives.
