I’ve been following the tragic case of Isaiah Knight, and my heart goes out to his friends and family. What struck me about this senseless act of violence was the loss of a promising future—Isaiah had just completed welding school and was all set to start his new job. It’s devastating to think about how he was trying to de-escalate a fight and ended up losing his life. Such a brave and selfless act to step in for the sake of others. I can’t help but feel for his child, who will never get to see their father growing up and will have to rely on stories from others to learn about what a remarkable person he was. The Greenwood community must be shattered, especially during a time meant for celebration and reflection. Hoping for healing and justice for all affected by this.
