I was deeply moved reading about Zanir Childs and couldn't help but be struck by the community’s response during his funeral. Seeing everyone come together at Greater Bright Light Baptist Church, wearing black and orange, was incredibly poignant. Orange is a powerful symbol of gun-violence awareness, and it felt like the community was not only mourning Zanir but also making a statement that this kind of senseless tragedy needs to stop.
It's clear that Zanir was loved by many, and the stories shared at the service painted a picture of a young man who was much more than just a victim. He was a dedicated brother, a caring grandson, and a friend to many. The outpouring of support from the people of East New York truly underscores the impact he had on those around him and the pain his loss has inflicted.
My heart goes out to Krystal Childs and all of Zanir's family and friends. Their strength through such a difficult time is inspiring. Let’s hope the arrest provides some relief, although nothing can truly bring Zanir back. This gathering and show of solidarity should remind us all of the importance of community in the wake of such devastating events. We must continue to rally against the violence that has taken too many lives like Zanir’s way too soon.
