I’ve been thinking a lot about the role social media played in this case, especially considering how quickly information spread about the suspects. It’s amazing how platforms can aid in a manhunt but also terrifying when you think about the impacts on those involved, particularly in smaller communities like Alexandria. Corey Brooks’s classmates must have had a rough time seeing posts and updates about the tragedy as it unfolded.
While it’s a relief that the suspects were apprehended, I can’t help but wonder how these kinds of events shape the environment at schools and within the community more broadly. It’s so important for the youth in those areas to have support systems in place as they process what's happened and try to heal. My heart goes out to Corey’s family and friends, who are faced with such a tremendous loss, and sadly, only left with memories to hold onto.
Has anyone else been thinking about Corey Brooks' classmates at Alexandria Senior High? I can't even imagine how tough this must be for them. They lost a friend and classmate so suddenly, and to such senseless violence. It must be a huge weight on their hearts. With all the lockdown drills we hear about, you'd think our kids are safe, but then tragedies like this remind us all how vulnerable we are. I hope the school is providing grief counseling and a space for students to talk about Corey and what they're feeling. No one should have to go through something like this alone, especially not at that age. My thoughts are with them all. ❤️
