I've been following Jadie Butterfly's case closely and can't stop thinking about the role the late response might have played in this tragedy. It's frustrating that it took so long for charges to be brought against Treyson Lee Sharp. It's crucial for the safety and trust of the community that investigations are conducted swiftly and transparently, especially given how complex cases on reservations can be with federal, state, and tribal jurisdictions all involved.
Jadie's family not only has to cope with the overwhelming grief of losing someone so cherished but also the exhausting fight for justice. It's not fair that they have to shoulder an additional burden to ensure their voices are heard and the case doesn’t get cold in the shuffle. Clearly, their persistence was a big reason the case gained the attention it did. But it should never have required such relentless advocacy on their part.
As the community continues to rally and show support, I hope this case brings more awareness to the broader issue of delayed justice in cases involving Indigenous victims. Let’s keep Jadie's memory alive and press for changes that'll prevent other families from enduring the same prolonged agony in pursuit of justice. Sending strength to her family and friends.
