I've been thinking about the mental health aspects of this tragic case and it's just so devastating. It's hard to wrap my head around how Jamie could get to a place where he believed something so outlandish about his own mother. Mental illness often goes unnoticed or untreated, but the consequences in this instance are beyond comprehension. If accurate, these claims about him believing she was an “alien” are chilling and point to a deeper issue. My heart aches for Kathryn and her family, especially knowing she rushed to help someone she loved. It's just an awful situation all around. I hope this case encourages more awareness and resources for mental health in our communities. Anyone else have thoughts on how we can prevent tragedies like this in the future?
