I’m still wrapping my head around the tragic events that unfolded near the Brightline station. It’s chilling how a place as bustling as downtown Miami can have this kind of hidden darkness beneath its surface. I can't stop thinking about the community that Cumba and the injured woman were part of. It’s often easy to overlook the stories of those living on the margins, but this shines a light on how vulnerable they are to violence. I also have to acknowledge the hard work done by law enforcement to identify and capture the suspect so swiftly. The coordination between Miami and Hillsborough County is impressive, and it's a testament to how seriously they're handling this case. But amid all this, my thoughts are with Cumba’s family and friends who must be going through an unimaginably tough time. Having someone ripped away in such a senseless act of violence is unfathomable. Let’s hope justice is served and brings some sort of closure to those affected.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the way the community around the encampment may feel after the shooting on June 4th. When something so tragic happens, it definitely rattles everyone nearby. The people living there are often overlooked, but they’re part of the community too, and now they’re likely dealing with fear and uncertainty. Imagine waking up every day in a place where your safety and comfort are already precarious, and then have something like this happen. It’s deeply unsettling. I hope there’s some outreach happening for them—whether it’s support services or counseling. It's easy for these aspects to be brushed aside, but trauma hits hard, especially in a community that's already struggling. If anyone knows of programs or nonprofits stepping in to help, please share. They shouldn't be left to handle this alone.
