I've been following the case of Da'zariah Easton's tragic death, and I can't help but think about the impact that gun laws—or the lack thereof—have on young lives. It’s incredibly distressing to see another young person lose their life due to the mishandling of a firearm. Da'zariah's story has sparked some much-needed conversations regarding the accessibility of firearms to minors and the responsibilities of gun owners. The fact that this happened because a teen mishandled a gun is a terrible reminder of how crucial it is to ensure guns are kept secure and out of reach of those not equipped to handle them safely. In Brunswick, like many communities, there needs to be a focus on education and prevention when it comes to firearms. This is about safeguarding our children and preventing such tragedies from occurring again. My heart goes out to Da'zariah’s family and friends who are enduring this unimaginable loss. I sincerely hope this serves as a catalyst for change so that no other family has to suffer in this way.
